95 psd, dually, 5sp, what could be causing a growling noise when i lug the truck down? truck has 135000, supposedly new clutch/pp/tb/flywheel at around 100000, i know the dm flywheels are junk but would a new one go bad that quick? not sure what flywheel the prev owner put in either. hadnt really been to worried till the other day i pulled into an uphill drive in second and thought i was gonna have to stop and put in first, loud and no power. other than that no other problems, seems normal at regular speed.
i am third owner, my buddy, second owner, was told by original owner that he put new in, dmf or smf unknown. i may be able to contact the original owner thru someone who knows someone etc. but this growl is a little irritating, not $600-1000 irritating.
When lugging the truck the noise coming from the trany is called "Gear Rollover". It's a normal noise. Nothing to worry about. I hear if you put an extra quart of fluid, it helps that.
didnt i read in another post somewhere that if you add some tranny additive it would help with gear noise? reddot or redline? anybody remember that post?
I ditched my dmf for an LUK smf last year. Now have a lot of gear noise with decel under 1500 rpm in 3rd & 4th (some in 2nd), but nothing noticeable under power.
still dont know if i have a smf/dmf. the noise is when you lug the motor in any gear. thought i read in a thread that you could put an additive in to help with gear noise but cant find it now, must have been dreaming that day. gonna change oil and add an extra pint which has been suggested to help gear chatter. see what happens.
