Can this be fixed?

Noticed this problem today; the boot is half missing on this joint.

Can this be fixed or does the whole rod have to be replaced? If so what does one of those cost? The joint is still nice and tight so I'd like to just sick another boot on there if possible.

I saw the other day that Advance caries tie rod end rubber boots. If it is in good shape and not worn you can get a new boot and put it on there. I have the same problem I just kept it greased for now but when I saw that I had a brainstorm.

I believe you have to replace the whole rod, but if the joint is still tight then I would keep it greased and find a boot for it at advanced

you can get boots from napa too i think. a new rod is around 75 dollars that's a generic guess, i replaced mine about a year ago i could be off by 15-20 bucks.

There are no Advance stores in Oregon but I stopped at the Autozoo on the way home and picked up a set of boots for $4. Here's a pic of the installed boot.

Joe_D, good job. $4 for boots beats $100 for drag link.

Glad it worked. It is great that now you can just buy the boot huh? I believe it is time for me to get a set of boots myself.

good pic, glad you found that. this should be helpful to others because the boots are quite fragile compared to the life of the part they cover.
