It will fit. There have been many Cs swapped in over the years.

How do you use the truck?

An easy V8 swap is the 352/360/390 etc.. however thats not the most economic engine. But if it was me I'd invest in that 6 if it's in decent shape. As a weekend ride the gas will be less and if you need a work horse at any time it's already there.

If you are going to invest money in a 6 banger, do it with the 300...which is a far better engine than the 240 ever was.

It's a bolt in operation.

now I read somewhere on here that the 300 and the 240 are the same block. just change out the crank and rods I think? and that'll be pretty much it. also I think the 240 has a 3.85" and the 300 is a 4" is that right? and if i do invest in the 6 instead what is everyone's thoughts on putting a new intake manifold on it to put on a 2 barrell or two 1 barrell carbs. hell I'll even ask about putting on a 4 barrell.
