The VIN (or more accurately, the warranty number) is on that plate, but there are also numerous other codes on there for body style, color, trans, rear axle, horsepower, gvw, etc. If you post all of the information off of that plate, someone here is sure to decode it for you.
Ack I thought the Warranty Plate on the door was your VIN
1963/79: Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch. The VIN stamped on it is known as the Warranty Number.
Directly below where it's stamped, the following is printed on some of these plates: NOT FOR TITLE OR REGISTRATION PURPOSES
Why? Because it's EZ to change the Warranty Plate, as it's riveted on. When this occurs, the VIN on the registration/title & hidden frame VIN will not match the Warranty Number.
The usual reason: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
VIN does not contain codes for axle or tranny, these codes are stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate.
1967 VIN example (1961/80 similar): F10YRA12345: F10 = F100 2WD / Y = 352 / R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant / A12345 = 1967, assembled August 1966.
