Talking New trans installed

Got my truck back today with the new beefed up trans in it, seems to be freaking awsome lol. Puting my dp back in tomarrow after work so Ill really get to test it out after that. The only thing I dont like about it is it doesnt shift as firm as I thought it would, its just a tad bit firmer than stock.

And I got a question, how much bigger is the larger trans cooler that was a factory option ( I believe there was such a thing), they told me they installed the larger factory one but Im not so sure they did....

Congrats on the tranny...the factory cooler is tee tiny, i installed the 6.0 coller when I had my trans done, the thing is bigger than a radiator.

Look around, there are some pics of a stock one I believe.

You could always put a TransGo shift kit in -- mine shifts perfectly for my tastes.

On the cooler, it's between the condenser and the intercooler. The stock one isn't much bigger than the power steering cooler.

Here is some good info on coolers:
1999-2003 Superduty Upgraded OEM 7.3L Cooler (V-10 Style)
Tru-Cool 4739 MAX

The biggest and best cooler you can get is from a 6.0L truck. It's better than the V10 or the Tru-cool.

Check the way it shifts after you put the DP Tuner back in. You will see a difference. The chip raises the pressure electronically thru the EPC. The combination of whatever reprogramming kit and mods, they may have installed in your trans, and the chip will give a firmer shift. I, on the other hand, need to have the EPC pressures reduced by reburning the chip as mine are very aggressive at WOT. Valve body mods and trans chip mods will "stack" with each other.

Yep -- but if you put the V-10 in the stock position, and the Tru-Cool inline in front of the condenser, you have about 25k more cooling, IIRC. Personally, I don't need that much, but if someone does, it's a good option and easier to lay hands on than a 6.0 cooler (generally). I've been looking for 6.0 coolers and they seem to be getting top dollar these days. I'm thinking I'll just go with the tru-cool in front of the condenser and leave the stock cooler in place which gets me about the same capacity of the 6.0 cooler (about 60k, I think).
