A taller tire on an axle is just the opposite. A taller tire is not equivalent to getting a longer wrench, it is like having to remove a larger nut with the same wrench. Your axle is the wrench. It is what is doing the turning, and taller tire is the bigger nut. It is the thing being turned.
Lots of ideas and info for everyone. Good technical debates as well. I try to learn something new every day. Thanks for the posting and as soon as I get a few mechanical problems fixed so that I can keep on the road I will resume testing and experimenting.
I am still averaging 15 MPG at the moment. I have also installed a factory tach in my truck to watch the rpm's. Thanks Conanski for the link to do the swap.
Been a while since I updated. I am currently averaging 14.75 MPG give or take. I think the drop is due to an exhaust leak ahead of the 02 sensor. I am going to fix it by installing a set of headers as soon as I get about $300 saved up.
New update. I installed a set of headers on my truck and got 16.757 MPG on the way up to Boise. I knew that they would give me a little boost in mileage but I did not think I would get that good.
Due to money being short I have not had a chance to test the power yet. I did have to take off from a stop sign to chase someone down and was smoking the tires though the intersection though.
