351W Distributor

I am rebuilding a 70 351w (completely stock). I am considering upgrading the stock distributor to an electronic type (duraspark, I guess, or aftermarket). My question is when did they start making the duraspark and will it work ok with my 1970 engine. I have a line on a 1978 351w distibutor and want to know if it will work. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Mike

It should work fine as long as you get the brain that goes with it. Also I beleive there is a tech article about installing one here on this web site. You have to wire it up a certain way I think. I have a Crane XR-700 installed in mine.

The '70 351W I have in my '64 is running a Duraspark Dist. out of a 1979 Cougar.... straight swap... I no longer use the stock duraspark stuff having switched to a CD ignition .. but before the swap the '79 worked without hitch.
