will I be alright

I have a 97 4.6 5 speed man with 3.55 4x4. my manual says I can pull 3100 lbs my trailer weighs 2750 dry. Will I be alright if I go over about 5 -600 lbs? I wont be putting any water in it till I get there just groceries propane etc. one trip up then back in the fall. Fairly flat with the odd short moderate hill thrown in. Truck is in good shape just want to make sure im ok. O yeah have trailer brakes and an eq. hitch. total one way is about 60 miles

The weakest point will be the clutch in getting you going. The brakes would be another question. If you kept the speed down you might be OK?? Remember the dry weight is NOTHING in the trailer just the shell of trailer. In any case you would be maxed/over weight. Remember also you have to add in people weight and stuff weight. This is for the GCWR listed on the truck. Good luck!

Towing capacity

Officially, no.
Don't tailgate the person in front of you, and don't be in a hurry, and probably you will be fine.
There will be others that say you must have the latest F-450 diesel truck. It is not really necessary.

You are only overweight buy the manual transmission. Engine, brakes and suspension on your truck with an auto are rated for much more with auto. So if you have you trailer brake controller wired up properly and are easy on your clutch, you will be just fine. That unit you are pulling loaded up will probably be in the 4000# range. Don't hesitate to weigh the trailer your first time out at your nearest truck stop scale. Check the yellow pages if you cannot find one.

You should be fine, your weakest links as mentioned are the clutch and transmition. I had a 98 f150 auto and towed my 5000lb dry weight trailer with it. I live in a mountainous area and it was only a problem on the mountains. Just enjoy a longer than normal leisurely drive with it. If you change your plans and start towing it more you should go to at least a 5.4l auto. I have now traded up to a diesel auto. As I said I live in a mountianous place (South western British Columbia) and I also intend on towing it a lot. Good luck and Hi to another Canadian

I pulled a 5,000 pound trailer around for about 50,000 miles with a truck exactly like yours, you will have no problems at all. Your truck won't start struggling until you get into the 7,000-8,000 pound range...

Don't think you need an equalizer hitch with that little weight - JMHO.

Only if he want's to get 4 MPG and lose an injector on the trip out.

You'll be fine. Be nice on the 1st to 2nd shift, don't rev it too high then clunk it down.
