I plan on building my truck up but I'm out of money at the moment.. I'll get some lump sum $$$ in the near future. D60 isn't high on my list of priorities, but if I find a weakness in the D44 before I start spending money again, I'll definitely swap one in.
The original plan was to stay with mostly stock parts but 'upgraded', I'll definitely keep my ford 9'' and for some reason I'd feel like an idiot having a D60 in the front and a 9'' in the back.
Had no clue the D44 was so weak, I see so many people excited about swapping in a D44 front like it's some kind of serious upgrade, on their 14'' lifted trucks with 38'' tires, I assumed it was decent. I wont spend money on the D44 if it's going to be a weak link on my truck, which in my opinion gives me more reason to go ahead and weld the front.
I'm a coward so I'll never really push the truck *that* hard.. but uh, see, I have a bet going with my brother-in-law that I can outpull his 58 WM300. I'm guessing that's the kind of **** that will kill a locked D44? it's a 1T truck, 36'' tractor tires geared 5.9 (I'm at 3.5 now).. it only has a 90hp i6 though (thing is like an old diesel, 240ft lb with a redline of 3k RPMs)
I got the answer i wanted, so thanks everyone.. D44 can't really handle being locked if I ever feel brave enough to do anything serious in my truck. I'll keep an eye out for a D60 and I wont waste money regearing the D44.
I'd die if it broke while trying to pull a Dodge truck, regardless of how rediculously unfair the competition is..
edit: and I've never heard the clicking, anyone have a video with it going on? To be honest I was a bit excited about the clicking in my Ford 9'' (I like to show off).. decided against locking the rear until I regeared the truck though, and now that I'm out of money I really regret that decision.
My rebate check is all going into my front suspension, plus shocks and brakelines all around.. I just have so much I have to do before I can get into stuff like locking gears, which is why I was hoping I could do it on the cheap.
He was on spike with the new gearz show then his shows stopped so i figured he was done but then I was flippin throught the channels and there was gearz on the speed channel. I had to upgrade my dish package to get gearz but it was well worth it.
You should watch TruckU (laughing), I seen it had Matt from tgw so i figured it might be cool untill I started to watch one of the shows and it was all about how to install a body lift on a cheby.

Haha, yeah TruckU is a joke.
Trucks on spike is a joke.
There isn't much I waste my time watching now...
I went ahead and bought a LSD carrier, hopefully it will fit (it's from a newer Jeep rearend), I asked on this forum and apparently noone knew if it would fit.. but I did some reading and Jeep people swap carriers from just about any Dana44 in existance, so I should be alright. I'm glad they stayed with standards over the years.
anyways, it only cost me $50. A LSD in the front and locker in the rear should be adequate until I feel like putting money into a D60 buildup.
