mountaineer fuel filter

The wife has a 06' Mountaineer (standard model) She put cheap gas in it for a while now the filter needs changed. The dealorship said it would be around 60$. I thought, thats nuts the filter is only six bucks for peet sake! So I bought a filter and went to install it only to find its not where I thought it would be. Can anyone help me? I cant find the stupid thing.

our 02 is under the passenger side front seat where your feet would set. there is a sheetmetal cover over it. it sets between the drive shaft, exhaust pipe, and door sill.
