the intake tube is actually just a section of exhaust pipe that i had in my storage building. i had a 4" mbrp kit, and i kept the last section (from muffler delete to tip) in case i needed or wanted to fabricate something with it. i used the last bend which is roughly a 45 and cut accordingly. i had to clean the dogcrap out of the inisde since there was soot inside, but some brake cleaner and shop rags, got it all clean and smooth. i used duplicolor brake caliper paint from autozone on all the piping and the spider. i think i need another coat on the spider, since it isn't as bright as the pipes. i was going to buy a section from here: Mandrel Bent Pipes & Accessories, Aluminized Steel | RacePartSolutions.com, but decided to use what i already had.
Lots of work but well worth it. I think I need to pull mine back out and paint them up. Do you think that white would get to dirty and not clean back up?
Well, after reading this thread all day at school, i went to my dad's shop and pulled the spider, two IC pipes, and the little piece of 4" exhaust for the 6637 and primered and painted them. I used just a generic sandable primer and one coat of Plastikote engine enamel (Ford Red of course), and man do they pop!!! Will post pics this weekend when i get it all put back together. Hotwheelbill: i used a lighter just to see what it would do, and the fuzz will burn, but you'd have to let the tubes be lit on fire for the glue, which i didn't think would be good (melting or deforming the tube maybe, not sure). Sorry for the long winded post but i wish i had painted when i did the wicked wheel, it makes a world of difference. Ahh PMS you beotch
Not to Hijack, but has anyone tried burning the glue/stuff/junk off?
Yes, but I really don't think it's as easy as the adhesive remover (Crown Sol-U-Strip). Just paint it on, keep painting in on for about 30 minutes to keep it wet (that's why the thick stuff is better), then using shop towels the glue just starts wiping off. I had to use a wire brush on a couple of stubborn places, then finish with the garden hose and SOS pad or steel wool...
Yea, i used the lighter for maybe 2 mins and gave up (my girlfriend enjoyed taking the fuzz i pulled off and burning it though... blonde moment). I used a wire wheel and WD-40 and this past time i used brake cleaner and it was clean.
Sorry guys, I was gonna get some pics of the process but my camera quit on me. I did get it finished though. The adhesive remover made the job pretty easy.
These pipes really come out lookin good. Yall do come up with some cool ideas. Can i ask what is the purpose of the foil in the first place? is it gaurding heat??

Where do you go to school that you can hang out on FTE all day? when I was in high school they barely gave us time to eat lunch!!!!
I did mine when I swapped injectors and had them clean in about 20 minutes- I used a MAPP gas torch inside the tubes to melt the glue w/o burning it and scraped it right off. I got the residue off with goof-off and shop rags. Painted them Ford Red and they looked really good till I blew one off at 26 psi and scratched it a little. They're good and tight now LOL.
Hey Mongo75, that looks pretty sweet. I did want to mention that from my view it looks like your coolant is a little low and summer is coming. Thanks for fighting for us.
