Had a weird thought the other day. ( ok more normal then most my thoughts) But as I was driving past the driveinn theaters here in wichita I thought why not have a G2G at the drive inn. Line the trucks up, eat popcorn and catch a movie or two. I ran the idea past Duane and he thought it sounded like fun.
As an added bonus I'll put $20 up for whom ever drives the furthest (3 gallons of fuel at todays prices).
sounds like fun.
Seems like somewhere over by KC there was a drive in that went with the full theather sounds, they put in dolby 5.1 with concert speakers, instead of the little window speaker.
I went to drive in at Wichita a few years back with the cruise they have down there with a couple of hundred other older vehicles. I brought the Tbird down. Sounds like a fun thing.
Kanopolis also has had a drive in but, I don't know if it is operating this summer or not. I can check cuz I know the family that runs it.
I thought it was a great idea. Some things to think of though, we will need to get there pretty early, they have the drive in set up with green and yellow poles, large vehicles like a Ford truck for instance have to park at the yellow poles while the smaller vehicles have to park at the green poles. If we get there early enough we can all park together but the line out from starts pretty early. Also, What does everyone think about a pot luck dinner while we are there?? Something you could either keep warm or serve cold would be great.
Here is a link to the Starlight drive in here in Wichita Starlite Fun
When we went they showed the original movie that the later one called "Rat Race" was based on. It was an early 60's movie with some great vehicles in it. Like Jack would say, my rememberer isn't working to bring up the name. Maybe it was the great race.
Nope, that was later. I saw it again about 6 months ago on TMC. It had a bunch of stars from the late 50's and early 60's in it including Spencer Tracy, Sid Caesar, Phil Silvers etc. Ya gotta be pretty old to remember them or be a real old movie buff.
I went and searched the web and it was "Its a Mad, Mad, Mad. Mad world." The story is about a bunch of folks trying to get to a buried treasure first. It had a great 47 or 48 Ford convertable in it. Hollywood remade it in the "Rat Race" movie about 10 years ago.
