a couple issues with the Cus Bus
2001 F-250 7.3.
2 things I need a little help with.
1st, I am not too familiar with diesels, but I get a wierd noise out of the exhaust. Does it when it is cold and usally disappears in about 3 miles when the truck is warm. Does it while driving also, only seems to make the noise when u are at a steady speed. Any decel or Accel and it go's away. Once the truck is warm it stops completely. Its not a bang or clunk, more of a higher pitched roar I guess you could call it. Is this normal? I did hear another ford with what I think was the same noise while it was idiling???
2nd, I have developed quite a vibration. Starts at about 25-30 MPH and disappears around 40ish. It shakes pretty badly and it will disappear if you gas it or let off it seems. RPM of the engine doesnt effect it so I am guessing something in the drivetrain? I shook my rear drive shaft and evertything seems to be tight. I think its stemming from the rear somewhere seeing how I dont feel it in the steering wheel as bad as I feel it in the seats? I also hear I clunk when I switch gears into drive or reverse, should I be looking at the u-joints more closely or start looking at something else?
Thx in advance for any info or direction u guys can give!!!
It sounds like the hanger bearing, if you have one, is bad or the rubber mount is shot.
If you don't have the transmission in neutral when you try to shake the driveshaft, it'll have torque on it, and you won't be able to move it by hand
Check the u-joints this way too - rotate the driveshaft back and forth and see if the u-joints have any movement.
Sounds like a hanger bearing or really bad u-joint.
I am not familiar with diesels so I can't answer your first question

It could be the exhaust going through the turbo without the turbo spinning fast. If that makes sense.
