Bronco Tranny Problem

I am trying to put a C-6 out of a 83 F-150 with a 351. This is a small block C-6 housing. I have the torque converter that came out of the 351 truck. The bronco getting the tranny is an 83 with a 300 six. Its a good running engine and I don't have the money to buy a 351 with the tranny. Anyway the problem is when we try and mount the C-6 to the 300, we can't get the housing to match up all the way. Its needs to come together about 3/4 on an inch more to mate up. I purchased a flywheel from local parts store for a 300-6 with a C-6. What am I doing wrong? Is the torque converter different? PLEASE HELP !!

I wouldn't think so, as far as bolting up goes anyway. What tranny was in the bronc before? Look at the very center "button" on the torque converter, then look at the back of the motor/flexplate where the torque converter button goes in side of it. We had this problem on a 302 that we swapped in 94Nichols' bronco. The motor we got came out of a manual tranny mustang, his bronco is an automatic. There was a bearing/bushing issue to contend with. (You have to remove it) Don't know if that is the problem or not, but I hope this helps. Let us know.

Problem solved

This is giddyupbronc. Thanks guys for your input. I talked to a Transmission shop today. An old timer told me you just need to seat the converter all the way in. He said most rookies make this mistake. Their is a first set of spline, then it slides past the rubber seal. Then, he said keep pushing and turning...and it slides into the pump. Perfectly. Nothing like experience when it comes to these things.

Finished the C-6 Swap

I finished up the auto c-6 swap from standard tranny. No problem once we got he converter to go all the way in. I found a cable shifter from a aerostar van. Perfect set-up with the longer shifter handle. Even the crossmember did not have to be adjusted. Drive shaft fit also. Good by to that old "rug" transmission!
