Brakes on '88 - question?

I recently bought an '88 with a limited slip in the rear (which i know not so much about the rearend). i was telling a buddy that i was gonna do brakes on it soon and said yea good luck, he said something about how the drums are damn near impossible to take off? does anyone know what he's talkin about? thanks

They are no different than any other drums, don't know what your friend is talking about.

Sometimes they are rusted on, but its not different than any drum.

Sometimes if your drums are worn down pretty far a ridge can develop on the outer edges where the brake shoes don't touch. If the shoes are adjusted correctly then they may be inside this 'lip', the drums will be hard to remove because you have to get the 'lip' over the shoes. Sometimes you can just jiggle the drum and get it over, sometimes you have to adjust the automatic adjuster so the shoes move away from the drum. If your drums are stuck to the axle just beat the edges of the drum with a big hammer and they'll pop loose.
