I have a SunCoast unit with converter. They do about the same thing as BTS and JW and may be a lil more $$. I have about 5k in mine with the 6.0 cooler and magna tek pan....
It depends on what you are going to do with it, I do some pretty serious hauling so I couldn't afford to cheap it. If you have a grocery getter, consider something cheaper..........

I am towing a 12K toy hauler and I don't know if the trans has ever been replaced or not. My truck is a 99 CC 4x4 w/178K on it. I just got it in Dec. and it seems to be doing very well for now but for how long I don't know. Just getting answers now before the fact. I have talked to a couple of local shops in San Diego and with the upgraded TQ converter and clutches I belive is around $2500. I don't know how these compare to the JW or BTS but I know they only have a 12mo warranty compared to 2 or 3yr of JW and BTS.
We have a BTS in one of ours. Love it. I had mine rebuilt to higher specs when it went and it is doing fine. The only thing I did not do is put the 6.0L cooler in. That will be coming when business gets rolling again.
Call BTS and talk with Brian. I spoke with him last year and he is very easy to talk to and will answer any and all questions. He told me he doesn't like to talk back and forth on email, wastes too much time compared to the phone. That is not to say that John Wood wouldn't too. I am just going off my experience.
I pull a 48 ft, L/Q race car trailer at just under 27000 lbs GVW, and my stock T/C was rattling at lock up, the truck has 109000 miles on it so it was time for a new one. now I know nothing about BTS nor have I talked with him, but I have seen people post here about how JW treats people when they go to his shop, and they have always gotten great service, so I gave him a call, he said that they are all about the same in pricing and innards, but he has allot of time in R/D in the T/C, and that T/C is one nice piece, and taking the truck out on a test drive last night the truck is sooooo smooth no weird vibrations, the throttle is right there, no 1/8 in peddle before it starts to move, as of right now it has made a big differentness in the truck, so we will see how it pulls.
I am sure you will love it. I have never heard a bad word about a JW tranny. I believe you can't go wrong on either one. They both back their product up, and from what I have heard, they both have very good customer service.
You guys will have to forgive me, I am not familiar with Transmissions. When you say a BTS Transmission, is this the manufacturer of the parts or a company called BTS Transmission? If you are recommending the company, I am in virginia and going to Cali for a tranny is not possible. What parts are the BTS guys using? And what is a JW Trans?
BTS is Brians truck shop in Arkansas. They and JW (John Woods in California) are about the best transmissions you can get for the 7.3 liter diesels. They are bullet proof. They will ship them to you or you can go to their shop and watch them build your unit. You don't have to go there but some people do. The parts they use rae their own proprietary versions and some upgraded after-market pieces. Call either of them and ask questions. They will tell you better than we can, what is up.

Can't speak for Jon Wood but Brian bent over backwards (his entire shop for that matter) to make sure I was happy with my tranny - and I am.
One noticeable difference is Brian doesn't have stages like Jon, his units are build identical but fine tuned according to your needs like towing, mountain vs city driving, lift, mods etc.
With that being said, I've read a lot of posts about Jon Wood's units being just as good with many, many satisfied customers so it's just a matter of where you are located - if you want them to install it. FWIW...
Bryan's truck shop? I was looking on their website, aside from some cool track pictures and some gears I didn't really see any info. Anyone want to say how much their transmission cost.
I just lost second gear yesterday too so I feel for you, it sucked.
$4100 plus shipping. If you drive there, he installs it free. After that, it is the last trans you will pay for. Even after the 2 yr warranty period, he still fixes them for free.

They DON'T compare to BTS. BTS will have a 2 yr written warranty for formality sake. He doesn't care why it broke, he fixes it. What happens after 2 yrs are up? Same.

He even walked me thru disassembling the shifter. I called him to ask him if the trans was having a problem and he listened and said "No. The problem is in your shifter. A wire broke.". He stayed on the phone while I took it apart.
When I was in the area, I asked him to help me with the Big Oil install I bought. His calendar was full but he squeezed me in, warning me that it will take all day and some. He stayed till 8pm. Oh, I tacked on a trans flush and a couple of other things too while I was there.
My build day for the BTS tranny is tomorrow!!! I am extremely excited to speak with and pay Brian. My wife on the other hand, well that is a different story. Her Bday is Saturday and here I am paying for a new transmission. As soon as I pay, I will let everyone know how much my wife's present cost me.
