Bob,
For a minute there you had me Bob but then I realized that this may be a case of terminology as it applies to a specific locale. Here in Appalachia</ST1, there is not a great degree of ethnic diversification. The term you are probably offended by, “Welfare Porch Monkey”, DOES NOT refer to any racial classification. I apologize if you took it that way. In this case it refers to people who actually take pride in being second and third generation welfare cases, who have absolutely no intention of ever doing anything aside from being a parasite. The government has made it difficult for them to use their benefits for stuff like liquor and cigarettes by issuing plastic cards only redeemable for the stuff they actually need. Lazy as they are, they are a resourceful bunch. They supplement by stealing stuff and since scrap metal is high they steal that. If they aren’t stealing old vehicles they are tearing down power lines or stripping the copper plumbing out of houses that aren’t occupied. To make matters worse their addiction to drugs fuels the fire. Frustration??? I’m afraid you missed the mark on that one. Try DISGUSTED !!! If you think this is an exaggeration you should talk with my neighbor who is a local cop. You can’t begin to believe the things these people do. Yes Bob, I was being derogatory. So far as I’m concerned, every decent person should be. Instead of public outrage, we look the other way. Sorry to unload on you but you really hit a sore spot. No Bob, I’m afraid the term frustration just doesn’t get it. So far as playing the racial angle is concerned, you missed the point. Although this is a small town with little racial or ethnic diversity, I have been to lots of other places where there is a large degree of that. I can tell you right now, I’d trade this bunch for any and all of those groups.

thanks....

Fabricating shift linkage is one of the most frusrating things out there. I started out with my early 70's Caddy column and my TH400. I never could get it exactly right. It doesn't help when you are trying to do this by yourself either. Under the truck, insdie teh truck, back and forth, up and down...etc, etc. etc.
I finally gave up and bought a B&M truck Megashifter ($100 on ebay)

Several companies offer shift linkage, Lokar, etc but I didn't think they would work in my case.

Bobby

The linkage in my 53 goes from the column, 75 E250, to the tranny, 72ish FMX. I used the van shift linkage by figuring out the length it need to be, by hooking it to the column and eye balling the length at the tranny. Then I cut out a section at a fairly straight part so it was roughly the right length, actually a little shorter. Then I made a bushing about 3-4 inches long that the two end of the cut shifter fit in. Next I drilled and tapped holes for a pinch bolt on each end of the bushing. Installed the shifter and bushing, adjusted for length, and here is the beauty part, I could turn either end of the shifter to align it correctly. Then I tightened the pinch bolts, tried it several times to make sure it had the right movement and no binding. Had a wobbly pop to celebrate.
Next I have to weld the bushing to the shift rod....eventually

Not cheap anymore!!!!!! I was thinking about this topic and I'm sure some of friends in here are in the same boat who are married. I just remembered when I buy parts or things for my truck, I have to justify the expenses by allowing my wife to purchase things for equal value (or more). So, with that.... I have over 40K invested in my truck. Now that hurts!!!!!

Dave- we got your point and I for one understand your discust. Your not listening to Bob, he's not talking about your frustration or discust with society issues, he's merely stating this forum is not the appropriate place to debate the issues. We like taking about things we do on trucks and how upset we get when we run out of cold beverages or someone steals our cookies.

Wobbly pop....I love it! made me laugh out loud.

The Frosties and the tools get lumped into "just the price of doing business" catagory. They are consumables (especialy the frosties/wobbly pops) like welding wire, shield gas, sand paper, car magazines, pizza, etc

Note for Ed----do not factor the consumbles into the price of anything....just think how that would bump up the price of truck stuff which in turn bumps up the price of the conciliatory significant others shopping spree

Since I'm getting depressed on this subject LOL.... Let add in the cost of shipping, and gas (@ $4.00 a gallon) to go buy these parts and supplies of the trade... And with that, I'm going to get me a frosty beverage or two. Analysis: We don't have any choice but to be CHEAP! LOL....

What tools, I didnt see any tools did you??? Tools are alot like the cold beverages (your choice) Theyre a NECESSITY!!!! Too bad we dont all live close to each other. Kind of like one of them snooty gated communitys, only with us we'd all have old Ford trucks and projects and tools around our houses. Kind of what I imagine Heaven to be like!!

So does this mean when you buy a used rusty cruddy looking part, she gets something for the house of similar condition and value too?

I'm lucky I guess, my wife doesn't play that card...in fact she can't wait till the thing is done and we can go for a cruise......
