You have a 3 port selector valve on the frame rail driver side.
You got to test the wiring and selector valve.
Unplug the selector valve and hook a test lamp in line with ground to it's wire.
Turn the key to run, and flip the selector switch on the dash. The test light should be on for one tank, but not the other. If neither tank selection lights the light, you have bad wiring or selector switch in dash.
If the test light lights on one tank but not the other, the wiring and selector switch is functioning. The problem is with the selector valve and/or ground.
Hello...i'm having the same situation on mine....same truck 1984. Nice. Picked it up last week from an uncle of mine. It's been sittin' up for 2 years. Ran fine when he parked it. Can't get it to register fuel & somebody please tell me where in blazes is the tank switch? I'm not real smart but i've crawled all over this thing & the mystery continues....help!
Thanks, texasblues.

Just read this old thread while attempting to solve a fuel issue.
Bill, a question for you...
Now, is that the same place in Kansas that sells crummy Chinese made rubber products instead of quality ones made by Dennis Carpenter here in the USA? I guess you have to pay for the commercials on Velocity some how.
