My A/c compressor went out and im replacing it with a new one, so i have a semi good compressor sitting in my garage.
Do yall think it would wok well enough to use for an air compressor?
I would think that because its an open system that it wouldn't matter if the compressor leaked as long as i have a check valve to keep it from draining the whole system.
Would this work or would the compressor no be able to do it because of the damage?
I have personally thought about this... I wasnt ever quite sure on how well it would work... thought about taking a similar idea and having the compressor fill a tank mounting was another problem i came out with... im sure somebody will pitch in with something more deffinete... but for now im off to bed...
If it's the pump from your f150, then I wouldn't bother with it. Using that style of compressor complicates things, and if it's already leaking, it's going to perform even worse. Check the link in my sig. Thats what I did.
Sorry its taken me so long to get back, my truck is going through its everything is gonna break stage. I'v been having to fix things constantly.
Anyways, I figure that these compressors are capable of compressing freon to over 300 psi so even if it is kinda messed up and leaks it still should be able to push a good amount of air at 150 psi. And if it doesnt work then ill go looking for a york to swap it with. But i dont see much harm with trying the old compressor.
But my old compressor suffered what is know as black death, is anyone familiar with this? would the compressor be able to work at all after this. I do know that black death has something to do with Teflon fillings getting melted and pushed through the rest of the system and clogging it, which starves that compressor of oil, but after that would a compressor be usable for OBA?
