I am new to this whole old truck thing and I have been looking for a while. I found a pretty nice 1965 truck. SWB, not a custom cab. It has 77000 documented miles, original headliner, all instuments work. The truck is a 6 CYL with 3 on the tree. It has been repainted to the original factory color, a bluish-green color. It has new tires and the bed has just a small amount of surface rust on her.
Can anyone here tell me what a good deal on this truck would be and what I should expect out of this truck?
First off welcome to FTE. Truck prices are a funny thing. There are guys on the East coast that would pay a thousand $ for something you couldn't pay me to haul away. It is very subjective. Check your local listings, craigslist, evilbay, and see what is comparable. Go inspect the truck and decide what your willing to pay and how much work your willing to do or pay to have done and start haggling. If you need more help thats what we're all about. If you don't know what to look for or where to look just ask. Good Luck, Rich.

Thanks for the welcome. I went ahead and purchased her for what I thought was a steal. I still want to know what it's worth, though. Not thatI ever want to sell her but I can't make heads or tales about the worth of the truck. They are all over the spectrum as far as pricing goes.
BTW...since your welcome was so nice, I wanted to tell you guys that I worked for GM for 21 years and got the boot so I defected to Ford vehicles. When I got canned, I went right out and traded he Yukon for an Expeditiopn and sold my Hummer. Now I have the Expedition and the 1965 Ford F100. I can see more Fords in my future.
However my new job is pretty interesting...I work for Lamborghini!
Ok, I'll bite. By you're short description I would take a wild guess - 4,000$. Look the 61-66 F100 up on e-bay and you'll probably find something in the same condition as yours. Of course it also depends on the locale.
Can you upload some pics to your gallery so we can see whacha got?
With all due respect, what does what I paid for something have to do with what it's worth?
Dear Gill just a friendly piece of advise hear friend. We are all friends on this forum weather we know one another or not personally, kinda like a little family of ford boys be it new fords old fords gassers or diesel. You can aquire alot of good knowlege on this forum for the asking. sir you are not making many friends already and these guys will blackball you in heart beat. Its not that anyone is gonna steal your 65 or berate you if you paid too much or be jealous of your find. It was mearly a friendly question across the table chat. I been a member since last july 07 and this forum and its good natured people share a wealth of information just for the asking. some of these fellows make their living working on fords. And will come to your rescue one day if you make an attempt to be on the friendly side. Just my 2 cents Do as you will.
BTW You truck in the northeast in good running shape with the 240 six would fetch about 1500 to 2500 depending if the cab mounts aint all shot out.
Yep asking folks to quote a price on it without a visual is kinda "worthless" I paid 1k for mine and it's a rust free Cali slick. It has the years on the interior and the brake lines needed the works etc.. but I've had folks offer 3500 for it... only to get smiled at and a kind wave goodby. I responded by saying add 4k to that and I'll sell you the POS 02 Dodge quad at home LOL...
Got my '65 F250 Long box Flareside for $3500. Could have been a might bit much for alot of people but a pretty good deal to me. Don't worry about what kind of deal WE think you got. If you offered what you felt to be a fair price (or even a steal) and you got it for that then you did just fine. Sounds like you may be a bit self conscious on what you did give for it. Don't be. I hope these rides start going for $150k now that I have one! LOL!
Well, It's hard to see the smile on my face as I sit here behind the keyboard. Please note tha tI started the thread with "all due respect" and I meant that. Down here in Georgia it can sometimes come across as rude to ask what somebody paid for something.
But, in the spirit of family and all, I will tell you that I paid $2600 for the truck. I think I got a pretty good deal considering there isn't a bad spot on the entire truck. I'm planning on putting a wood bed in the truck but other than that, I'm going to leave the truck pretty much like it is. I would like to maybe put a more modern brake system on it but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.
Inside the cab, the truck looks like it did the day it rolled off the assembly line. Outsise, the only flaw is an aftermarket rear bumper and SLIGHT surface rust where the truck bed floor meets the bulkhead. Other than that, she's perfect.
Maybe you guys can tell me where I can get some original wheels and hubcaps for her. I want her as original as possible.
Another thing I was thinking, I might want to convert her to a Custom Cab looking truck. Other tha nthe outside trim and instrument panel, what is different about the regular truck and the custom cab?

There is windshield chrome trim, the door script, that come to mind..yes that's trim I know. After that I've seen lots of interior cab options but think they are more or less add ons (not a basic custom cab) heater/air getup that sets under the dash, door panels with chrome trim, zipper door map/beer cooler get up..and so on.

Ha, that's like a New Yorker prefacing an insult with "No offense."
Like, "No offense, but your mother looks like used tires" or "No offense, but your breath stinks like old cheese."
