Power Booster Bracket trouble...

My search found a few of you have had the same problem. Tried mounting my power booster using the CPP 'bolt on' mounting bracket. Well it will mount to the original brake pedal bracket and frame. However the linkage between the booster and brake pedal is off by 1.5" and won't align. Does anyone have an actual picture of a completed install. The kit I have is this one:

http://www.classicperform.com/Instru...PDF/5356BB.pdf

I'm considering cutting off the end of the bracket that mounts to the frame and simply welding it to the end of the stock brake pedal bracket. Anyone done anything else with this?

Take a look at my gallery - booster & m/c install - There is a picture of my hook up
of the brake pedal. Hopefully it may explain the problem your having. Good luck.

Gusso, a little off topic but very related, is the duel booster that you are running a 7" or 8"? I am looking for someone with driving experience with a 7 inch duel booster. I currently have a duel 8" from an S-10 including the master cylinder. I used my original stock pedal and fabricated my own brackets. It is much tighter in my 49 than your pix. There is one pic in my gallery looking forward. What you can't see on the photo is how close the rear of the booster is to the aftermarket trans crossmember.

Gary - Great pics thx and yes thats exactly the problem I am having. It looks like yours even with the spacer is angling the pushrod to the booster. Any issues with it so far? I was thinking it needed to be fairly straight. Mine would need about 3 of those spacers to be straight.

Thx

Scott

Scott,

As a matter of fact, the pushrod is very straight. The spacers came with the kit.
(kit is CPP kit via Sacramento Vintage Ford). May Want to look at your brake pedal
bracket and see if all is well there. The brake pedal is on a bolt and maybe something
is broke or out of alignment there. Do you have an automatic xmission or standard?
Maybe the clutch pedal is throwing the alingment off. Good luck - Gary

49willard - Bill,

Yes. It is a 7in Booster. I don`t know if the 7" booster is any longer than your
8" S-10 booster. If you need to know I`ll be happy to measure it for you.
I have had no problems and highly recommend a dual booster for safety reasons.
Power steering and power brakes make all the difference. You will be very happy
with yours. Good Luck - Gary

the spherical rod end used allows for any slight alignment issue...

this is the same setup on my 56... the spacer keeps from collapsing the original gap in the pedal and the second one spaces out the rod.

I did not need any additional spacers...

I also wonder if something is amis with the original pedal location on the pedal pivot rod

Thx guys I'll check it out again. Its a C4 and the clutch pedal has been removed the brake seems to be positioned correctly up against the bracket on the frame. I was about 1.5" to the left of the brake pedal linkage point so I never considered the (1) spacer I got with my kit. Gary's pictures give me something to work from anyway.

Thanks again

Hi Scott
Just checked out your web site, and what a nice one you

Do you do all the panting yourself there? Also I saw the
childs hand prints on the side of your truck, made me
wonder if my grandkids were thereLOL
It looks that you may be done with it not to long from
now.
When is all done and you want to take her out, just remmber
where Warsaw, Tx is and come on out and take a ride out
in the country. All the M/C groups, and old car groups use
FM148 almost every weekend
Take care

is it possible during the C4 swap and clutch pedal removal a spacer on the original shaft was not reinstalled, changing the position of the brake pedal?
just a guess...

i think you will get it all figured out though!!

Doesn't this look right? The brake pedal is lined up correctly inside the cab.

Gusso,
I would like to know how deep your 7 inch booster is. My 8" is 6" flange to flange.
Thanks

While not exactly what was asked, I am running a single diaphram 7" booster with the complete brake system from the donor 87 Town Car and if they worked any better, my new windshield might have a few nose prints on it. I couldn't ask for a better balanced brake system.

It`s now 9:15 pm Sac time and I just got on forum. I`ll measure booster for you
in the am, and post sometime in the morning. Sorry for the delay, I`ve been
trying to fix some electrical problems on my `56 and was not able to get on forum
until just now. Any one have a magic wand that will fix electrical problems? lol

Bill,

The booster is 5 3/8" long. Measured from the booster mount bracket
to where the m/c bolts to it. The m/c is 7 3/4" long, for a total of 13 1/8"
Hope this helps. I was wondering, if you made your own bracket, would it be
possible to move it forward a little or re manufacture a new bracket to get you a little more room? Anyway goods luck with it.

Gary
