I tried searching but had no luck. What would be better for my truck C's or D's. I ask this because I was talking with buddy of my dad, and he said for my truck I should put on some D's for tires because I tow a 6000# trailer every so often. I was thinking C's. I currently have P255/70R16 on my 97 F150 4.6 4x4. I was thinking of upping to an LT245/75R16 because they are roughly 1/2in taller. So overall what is better for my situation? I would go to 265/75R16 but don't want to kill my city MPG.
I personally would go wit hat least a D range tire just because your truck can handle the extra weight that the D's can with stand I have E's on mine but also at times tow over the amount of weight recommended for the truck. :X But that is my personal opinion.
Go with either a D or E, they will handle the load better than a C.
Also since you have a 4.6 and stock gearing i wouldnt go much bigger than stock, esp. because you occasionally tow a trailer.
ditto on the not going bigger then stock, towing that much i would not want to lose some gear. I would go with a lower gear if you are just to get things moving easier.
Thanks everyone for replying. I searched discount tires website for D's and all I saw for the size i need is either C or E. I guess I'll have to ask about D's when I'm out looking for tires. I really don't see the use for E's as the truck is my daily driver. In my mind E's are overkill for how often i tow/haul.
keep in mind too that when going to a tire like that they are a fair amount heavier. A standard load tire is about 10 lbs lighter then a E rated tire.
You will lose some fuel economy and the truck will feel like it has lost some power now that it has to turn an extra 20 lbs on the rear axle. If you are primarily using the truck for towing I would go with a tire more suited for the job though. They will be more durable especially with a load on them.
I have Bridgestone Dueler Revo's in C, and they are wearing terribly. I started noticing it last summer towing my 4500# boat. When the time comes to replace, I will definitely be getting Ds.
