1993 F150 4X4 4.9 The front end pops if I start off hard from a dead stop. I also have play in my front end when driving. Any ideas would be appreciated...
I too have a 95 with a popping in the front end along with a slight pull to the left. I took the truck in to a reliable front end shop and got an estimate for just under $800 for repair. The outer tie-rod ends and one inner tie rod end are sloppy and need replacement. Additionally, there is a bracket that has been dejoined from the frame and it will need to be welded. It is the broken bracket and stabilizer assembly that are allowing the snap sound. The sound occurs not only in take off but sometimes in braking actions.
The cost to have the ball joints replaced would be an additional $700. The shop lead didn't think the ball joints needed to be replaced at this time. The vehicle is safe to drive, however, he recommended I bring it back prior to putting new tires on so he could install the new parts and align her. He couldn't align her in the condition she is in now. FYI
dude, if its gonna cost $700 more dollars to install ball joints, id find someone else to look at your truck. that is a rip off. most shops will charge $200 at the most.
