Front end popping

I get a loud single pop when turning the front wheels. e.g. backing out of the driveway making a 90 turn, then straightenning the wheels. the a single pop occurs when straightinning the wheels going forward or reverse.

Try the radius arm bushings! You should be able to see if that is your problem pretty easy.

It could be a loose bolt on your Tie-rod. I had a clunk occur and it was just that. I tightened it up and no more clunk. Hope it helps-SWSupreme

Check the rivets holding the front crossmember to the frame. This crossmember supports the engine and front suspension. It is very common for the rivets to loosen and allow the crossmember to move around. Have someone in the vehicle slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth while you closely watch where the crossmember meets the frame. I bet you'll see it move. While you're under there check the crossmember VERY closely for cracks around the bolt holes for the axle drop brackets. It's common for cracks to appear there as well. The fix is to have any cracks welded and to weld the crossmember to the frame. I had to have both problems fixed on my '95 F150, but it solved the same popping problem you described.

Re: popping noise

I had this last summer. One of the 2 bolts connecting the sway bar up front had snapped. These things do go once in a while.

If that's all it is, it's an easy fix. Replacements were less than $10 each. Took about 15 minutes to yank out the old one and bolt in the new.
