I just bought the Autometer pillar kit with gauges... All I can say is What a JOKE! They expect you to drill your pillar & the plastic to pop those stupid plastic tabs through. They expect you to paint the pillar to match your interior (Not the end of the world I Guess). I put it in, get it all setup and find that the bottom of the new plastic leaves about a 1/2 inch gap between the edge of the new plastic and the dash.
I can't belive they couldnt cast in the same clips as the factory piece. (No its not the end of the world, but still could have been a MUCH better fit and better designed for the price)
Sorry you had a bad experience with the gauges. They are a top of the line setup. I have ISSPRO gauges and they work great. Are they not working right?

Guages are fine and work great... Just the Plastic Pillar that was a joke...
I think all those pillar set ups are all the same. The paint is easy... just pop your old one out and take it to the paint store and find something that somewhat matches...
you might have to try some different positions on the pillar to tweek it to fit the best. Once you got it then drill a couple small hose and pop in those tabs.. . not too far though.. that way you can get them out. Then mark the holes you will need to drill in the original pillar piece...
Don't know what went wrong, but mine is AutoMeter gauges and looks as close to factor as I think is possible. The clips are hidden, the fit is flawless and paint is a perfect match. Maybe all the Pillar covers are not the same. Mine came for Pure Diesel Power and the Pillar Pod came already painted. Sorry for you trouble, I think I would do another pod, cause it sounds like you will never be pleased with the one you have.
I got my quad pod from ITP for my DiPricol Optix gauges and it fits great! Like Barry said, you can get it painted for a small fee, but I'm pretty good with a spray can, so it wasn't a big deal for me at all (I guess all those model cars I used to build gave me practical experience after all!). ITP sent me the correct paint to match my interior, so it looks like it came with the truck. Regarding the drilling, do you think you'll ever remove the gauges? Mine won't be coming out, so a hole in the existing pillar isn't an issue either.

i have the same set up..i drilled 2 small holes for the pins at the top..thats it..wires run down between them.. then through the dash near the windshield,,i think it looks good
When I did my cobra . I took some sand paper rough up the edges inside of the pillar . Then took a good adhesive and glued the two together. I used clamps to hold them until the glue dried. I saw those little plastic pins they gave you to put it together ,and did not care for that method. Been 9 years and my pillar is still holding up. Looks like it came from the factory that way.
If you have a stick shift and use just 2 guages, you could put them directly in the dash as I did.
How's that gauge mount work, is it just an overlay?
I've already got the 3 gauge A-pillar, but would like two more for oil pressure and water temp, and that is where I'd like to put it.

It's the original piece, just took it out cut holes and mounted guages. Be advised, you have to hog out a little plastic behind for them to fit. I used a roto-zip.
Ok. I've seen gauge mounts that look just like that, so I wasn't sure if it was a complete replacement for the whole dash, since it covers most everything, or just an overlay. Thanks.
