v10 towing my 6670# dry camper
well i moved my camper today. this 2005 f350 v10 sc 4x4 with 4.10s. tows awesome. iv only had the truck for about 4 weeks. and i towed my camper which is 6670 dry and 30' and the camper is loaded with everything. but no water or food. only 40 miles though. anyway. this truck didnt even crack a sweat. tranny temp didnt move either. it was turning 2100 rpm@ 60mph.and the truck never went more than 3100rpm and that was only once. going up a hill from a stop . i dont have much towing experence so i took it easy. and the built in trailer brake is very smooth also. the only other trailer i have towed was a 24' coachman tt. and that was with a 95 f150 5.8 sc 4x4 lb and that camper was only 4000#. and i didnt like towing that much with it. i love this v10

I think you will find that is a great rig to tow with. It's darn near as good as a diesel and the cost of gas is a heck of a lot better than diesel. Its about $0.68 a gallon less for gas in our area right now. I have a buddy that bought the V10 and that thing stock will out pull, barely, my 460 that has had a lot of major mods. He was undecided as to whether he made a mistake purchasing the V10 over the diesel. Now he is sure he didn't make a mistake. I hope you enjoy many miles of towing in the future.

You may have to take the hill a little slower, but you wont be paying 60 to 80 cents per gallon more to do it.

I just bought a 99 F350 with V10, 3.73 gears. I am pulling 30ft TT that weighs about 9000 lbs loaded. I just got home from a 450 mile trip that averaged about 9 mpg. I have never had a V10 so some of my concerns may be unfounded. I pulled with O.D. Off because it kept kicking out when i tried to maintain 65 mph. I ran at 60 mph because the RPM's would get above 2500 if I tried to go faster. 65 MPH would take the RPM's to the 2800 RPM range. Question: Is operating at 2800 RPM hurtful?

We have an 8K travel trailer and the truck acts like it really isn't even there. As for Deisels beeting us up the hill - not really! Most times I'm rolling by them. It's a darn fine engine / vehicle combo, especially for those of us that don't tow full time / like easy maintenance.

Would agree with Scottman20
. Read an article that the v10 towing 10k with 4.30s will do as well at the big 3 diesels with 3.73s towing. I would tow up to 14k with a V10. No doubt 8K will tow as fast as a diesel. 16k is a different story. Coming up the hills in the Poconos with my 450 4.30's I could tow at any speed I wanted. I usually let off a little to 62mph so it would not downshift to conserve fuel. Like Scottman said 70mph I blew a trailer tire getting up speed for the next hill. Smoke, tire pieces flying and cars swerving was not a pretty sight
. It will sure give you white knukles.
