Ok folks I'm ready to do the intake mod.........I have the 6637 filter and the 4" stainless pipe........seems like I saw a detailed thred on how to exactly put it together...............it looks like, or I heard you will need a 45 degree pcv pipe and maybe a small piece of 4 inch pcv straight pipe and a couple of clamps.......also does anyone make a cover for your filter once it is on............or maybe a box to put this thing in..........
I used a 4" piece of 45* exhaust pipe. I left the piece of the OEM air box over the battery to help cold(er) air get to it. I also strapped the IAT (intake air temp) sensor near the air flow. Some just strap it to the fender. If you decide on PVC you will need a 3", 45* pipe. You cut the bell off both....slide together and clamp. Enjoy the whistle
im about to do the same thing (i posted yesterday about it) my local autoparts store doesn't have any 4 inch 45's so im just going to go to a muffler shop that has done some work for me in the past on monday and have them make me one up
i used a pcv 45- worked perfectly. was easier to find than a stainless and was only 5 bucks. one side slipped into the existing flexible hose nicely and i used the clamp that was already there. the filter connection and the bigger end of the pvc pipe are the same outer diameter, so i used a clamp that holds on to both ends and keeps the ends separated by a tab of rubber. it is slicker than it probably sounds!
OK guys, for those of you that have gone ahead of me. I have this 4" pipe.........exactly how long do you cut it........and if I go down and have it bent.....where do you bend it............ie if for instance you cut the pipe 4 inches long........where in that 4 inches do you put the bend..........I've got about 14 inches of pipe.........I would guess it should be bent prior to cutting...........so how far from the end do you bend it...................sorry.........if I sound stupid.........but a lot of you have went before me and probably know from first hand experience exactly how it should be done.............replys by all are certainly welcomed..........also anything you would do different if you had to do it over again.
ps............where can you get a cover for this filter.........
I doubt anyone has the exact dimensions where to cut the pipe....it may be hard to measure it anyway. Have the pipe bent to 45*. Have them rough trim the pipe 6" from tangents of the bend.
This is how I did mine:
Remove the stock intake box, lay the new filter where the stock air box used to be...lay your newly bent pipe over the filter and rubber boot.
Put a couple marks where on your pipe where the boot and filter stop, add 1" to 1 1/2" to the marks you just made to make the pipe a bit longer.
Cut it with a hack saw, saws-all..or take back to where you had it bent.
you asked if there was a guy who makes covers for the filters...shoot a message to
"F250_ " he makes some really good filter covers. As for the lengths of the pipe....it came just the right size from napa

Yea I tried that too, the piece of OEM air box over the filter / battery but it just kind of flapped around without any OEM filter support on bumpy roads. I'm not sure how air really gets into OEM stock filter because from my observation when you close the hood it's sucking air from under the hood anyway. Maybe I'm missing a part of the original intake? I know on my old 7.5L gasser it went down to the grill area.
