the ccv mod

Just out of curiosity when doing this mod i have seen guys puting a new pipe between the rubber pipe that connects the air cleaner and the turbo....Just putting this out there it might be dumb, but could i build a new pipe out of black ABS from the turbo to the air filter , coneting them with IC boots or something like that????? any imput will be appreciated

Sure, you can do that. Just be aware of pipe inside diameters and be careful to not use a pipe that is more restrictive due to being a smaller inside diameter. Also, I would install a grounding wire from the plastic pipe to the frame to eliminate the potential for static electricity buildup due to the air velocities.

Superduty krazy- save yourself a lot of trouble and just go pick up a 3" ABS coupler- it's 4" OD (the diameter you need) and is basically a direct drop-in replacement for the CCV housing. If you try to build one out of ABS or PVC, you will end up with a smaller diameter (more restrictive) intake tube than if you just use the coupler.

That is what he is trying not to do. He wants to ditch the cobbled together unit that most guys have where you use a pipe for the ccv and a pipe for the filter. IIUC, he is looking to run a piece from the filter to the turbo...nothing in between. Look on eBay, there are a few setups that go part of the way, but not all the way to the turbo IIRC.

I get that, but if he's planning on using ABS or PVC, he's going to end up with an intake pipe thats 3" ID instead of 4" ID like the OEM setup (at least to the CCV coupler, it reduces at the turbo IIRC). Unless you find an exhaust shop that will custom bend you a piece of 4" tubing for the intake (good luck with that) you're not going to be able to get a 4" tube for the intake.
You are right thought most aftermarket set-ups only run a piece of pipe to the rubber hose connected to the turbo- I've never seen a setup with a single piece of pipe clear to the turbo. This is probably because the intake on the turbo is smaller (3" IIRC) than the filter end- you'd end up with a 2-piece setup anyways.

And they probably can't legally get rid of the ccv...

question on the cv mod??

i have been reading alot on this mod and have a few ??
1)what can i clean the "filter" with? is brake klean ok?
2)i see that most if not all have ran the line out to the back of the truck. why not just right down the firewall and terminate it there like the big rigs? i think that the concern about a low spot for the oil to acc. in and cause a blockage would be eliminated. just a thought thanks

Brake cleaner followed by compressed air, when available, is fine. Submerging and soaking in solvent better, but let it dry out before re-installation.

Many do just run it down the firewall. I run it back further because of the smell.
your choice.

My X dumps right behind the firewall. Havent noticed any fumes or anything annoying yet.

As far as the original connection to the intake, i just plugged the hole.
