Smoking after fuel filter change. Help needed.
I just changed my fuel filter, oil and filter, and shortened wastegate rod by 1/2 turn - now she smokes hard at 2000 rpm, and a bit at idle. Smoke is white / grey. Also at 2000rpm she is stumbling a bit.
Any suggestions?
Truck is a 1994 F350 Turbo diesel.

Fuel filter is leaking air in somewhere.
Did you oil both gaskets before installing the bottom on the filter and the filter on the fuel header?
Did you get both of them tight?
Were the rubber gaskets in the correct location before you installed the respective parts?
Is the water drain valve closed?

sounds like air might be getting in like dave said. What did you fill the new filter with?

Turned out okay, just had some residual air in the system - once I shut her down and let her sit for a little while started her back up and she ran perfectly. Amazing how much quieter she is with fresh oil.
Do you all run any oil stablizer? Like Lucas? Does great in my race car and street cars, thinking of adding to the truck.

I saw a video about Lucas over on the diesel garage forums about how it adds a lot of air into your oil which is bad.

Use good oil and leave that other stuff out.
Modern oils are engineered, if you add this or that you never know what the addative is doing to the original addative package.

That's what I use. A lot of my owner/operator friends stand by Mobil 1 Delvac 15w-40 as their oil of choice. Both seem to have a real strong reputation as being a quality oil.

I just watched a guy do a simple cohesion test.
Dip you fingers in a Rotella oil bottle then see how far you can separate your fingers with oil bridging the gap.
Now try the same with Mobil Delvac.
Three guys switched to Delvac that night for their trucks.
