I went to get my truck washed last weekend. I had drivin it maybe 10 miles and was not very hard on it. When they hit the front weels/hubs with water the rotors were so hot they were steaming when hit with water.
I took the truck in yesterday and asked them to check while they were doing an ail change. when I picked it up I was told this was "normal". Now the mechanic is first notch, he helped me out with the head gaskets on my 6.0.
Has any one had any thng like this? If the rotors were that hot what is hapenig to the bearings? Any help advice greatly appreciated.
got a 4x4 F450 ,,,, I've never had that problem?! Don't you love that first response you get from the techs .......... regardless what your problem is, the answer is "that's normal"!
The rotors will get hot if you apply the brakes hard or for a long time like on a down grade .they will even get quite warm with moderate use. That in it self will not harm anything . Even warm rotors will appear to [steam ] when that cold water hits them .
Did they smell hot ?
Just with normal driving the rotors will get hot. Even if it is a short distance. They have to dissapate a lot of heat, especially on a large vehicle. When working on vehicles, the brakes are often way to hot to touch unless it has sat for a bit. Almost any use of the brakes at all will cause them to steam when hit with water, which you should be very careful about. It can damage the brake rotors.
