I just used the gold stuff again. I don't mind changing it every 100k. There is a new (red I think) one that's supposed to be good for 300k if changing it every 100 is too much.
Gold is a good compromise between the ELC and Green. It has some silicates, but they do not need checked & maintained like the old green. You can go with the ELC as well, but it's a little more expensive and requires good flush before hand. Your choice.
I got the gold. But I'll check around and see if anybody got the ELC, i really don't mind changing mine either but i'll check it out, thanks. Hey joe, long time no here.
Check with Napa -- they should have it. Ask for Final Charge in concentrate -- it's the same as Rotella ELC. You'll need four gallons of that and about 20 gallons of distilled to flush out the old stuff. Save enough of distilled after flushing to top off after dumping the four gallons of ELC in (about 2-3 gallons).
Just drain, fill with distilled, heat up to temp so 'stat opens, let cool, and repeat until you get down to 3 gallons of distilled left or the water coming out is perfectly clear. That should get it clean enough to add the ELC.
Also, you can get the 203* stat and pull the old one out first to speed up the flush process. You won't have to wait for the engine to heat up between cycles. Put the new stat back in on the last drain and you should be good to go. You can also drain the block in the back if you like, but some folks have had equally good results without going though that.
You can reuse the stock housing if it's in good shape. If not, get the billet one from DieselSite.com when you order the stat. As long as you get the long stem stat, it's a direct replacement. DieselSite will send you the right one.
