I am thinking of turning my cube van into a camp like vehicle and i am considering installing an additional after market alternator in order to power or charge a power system. It does have a space to add one, it would be easy enough. I heard that my truck is in fact almost the same as a F450 and that the engine came equipped with a PTO. I dont know if this is fact or fiction and the truck is not currently with me so I have no way of looking. Anyone have some information?
Upgrade the alternator to 150 amps and add a couple batteries.
Then use a battery isolator between the extra batteries and the primary batteries.
When you are using power while camping, it is drawn off the second set of batteries, the stock batteries do not get drawn down.
But the second set of batteries do get charged while driving or the engine is running.
A PTO would come off the transmission, I have no idea if there were PTO provisions on the automatics.
