Truth about cats

I have the big 6 on my 86 F150. I put a single cherry bomb on, but its not doin the job, in fact, its barely louder than stock. I am thinking about cuttin the second, or possibly both off. I know this is a popular topic here, but I am lookin for the facts(louder, gas mileage, hp/torque,etc).
Thanks, Andrew

Truth about cats

The cats do a LOT of the muffling job. The stock mufflers behind them are little more than resonators. If you pull the cats and leave the stock muffler it sounds horrible, like a ricer with a fart cannon.

Truth about cats

My friend ERIC is right, the Cats do a great job of Muffling the exhaust all by themselves.

I just had my muffler replaced with a section of straight pipe last week and the sound HARDLY changed at all.

There was a "tad" bit more throttle response, that's about it.
