Texas Style Perspective On Things...

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in
defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is
more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All
else is supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said:

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight,
he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The
reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and
asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because
they don't make a 46."

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady
commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your
pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "No Ma'am. If I were expecting
trouble, I would have brought my rifle."

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I
said I did. She said, "Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!" To
which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!"

She then asked, "Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into
your house?" My reply was, "No, not at all. I'm not afraid of the
house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around
and they are all loaded too."

I don't disagree with what you're saying.

But, I don't keep a loaded gun around. The reason is that I'm not sure that I would use it -- and the other guy could end up with a weapon. My all time favorite spy novelist John D. McDonald used to go on about guns in all of his books. The gist of it was that a gun is not magic, you can't wave it areound, you have to shoot it to do any good.

That being said, I do not disagree with anyone who's confident in his/her ability to do that.

There was some similar logic in a military humor site, about going into combat

Rule 1
"Get a gun, get a great big gun, get two guns!. Get all of your friends with guns"

Went to a town meeting at the new city hall the other night, and the chief of police asked the crowd of about 200 if anyone that was carrying to raise their hand. These meetings have been known to get a little heated from time to time, but I thought it was a strange request. About half the attendees raised their hands. Without hesitation, the chief said, "Good. Now all the folks without guns know who not to argue with".

a friend of mine said that to me once....and i assured him that he'd feel different if he ever saw his wife/girlfriend/kids being attacked.....I know i'd have no problem with using it, i might fire a warning shot......

No warning shots for me. I carry, but do not tell anyone I have it on me or even with me, and I do not show it to anyone (LEO excluded). For me, my weapon is for one purpose - to defend my life, my family's lives, or someone else's life. I pray that I never am put in the position to have to pull, but if I do, it will not hesitate to use it. It is the reason I shoot regularly, practice routines, and have taken CQB and other classes.

My weapons stay loaded and have one in the pipe. God forbid I ever need one, but if I am at the point of pulling, I will not have time to load, ratchet, and fire. Only one that does not have one in the pipe is the shotgun. Even those that know nothing about firearms know the sound of the ratchet of a pump.

I must be from canada, I use my fists first, and I think using a weapon is pretty sad, UNLESS you get one used on you first.

Mind you where im from its not very common you have to live in fear that someone is going to attack you, or your family. Only thing we have to protect ourselves against is animals!

I personally think that anyone can pretend they are a man when they have a gun in a fight. It takes a real man to prove they dont need one.

You obviously don't understand the law in the U.S. If you're carrying a gun, it can't be used unless you are first in fear for your life or the life of someone else. It's not used to settle shouting matches or a bar fight. This isn't the wild west as much as the media likes to pretend it is.

Very true. To me thats like saying never drive a vehicle cause you could possible get in an accident!

I dont understand the laws down there either, your right there man Up here its so different and theres not much living in fear that you could get attacked so you have to carry a gun.

Im not saying it never happens though. But most guys around here settle it the old fashioned way, with the fists. Just the way i like it
