I have a 76 4x4 F250 Ranger XLT Highboy
I need to check my front wheel bearings and grease them up
do I just remove the bolts holding the lock-outs on to get to them? what do I need to watch out for?
I just need a run down on how to do this job so I dont run into any snags or surprises
this is my primary driver right now so I dont want to get held up
Thanks.....Rick (The Sifto Salt-Man)
i'm sure someone will give you an exploded view eventually, but yeah i think you have to pull your hubs, and calipers to get the rotor assy off to re grease the bearings. remember to remove all of the old grease before putting new stuff. i did this before with my d44 axles in just a few hours. but i'm no expert or anything.
yea I'm sure someone will answer this before too long
I'm just not familiar with these 4x4 hubs and don't want any surprises when I pull that lock out off
ya know like shet flying out or something like that
I want to make this as painless as possible
but I need to get it done, it felt a bit warm today and I don't need that headache right now!
but hey, Thanks for the bump!!....Later Tater
no help here, mine is converted 203 with aftermarket hubs
my hubs just have bolts to hold them on the hub and a snap ring inside
real easy to remove
could you not open the autozone pics?
yea but it didnt look the same, maybe because mine has the disc brake conversion?
I should have taken a picture of the hubs
they look like they just bolt on
I'll post up a picture first thing in the morning
Thanks
hey brownfoot, do you have a picture of yours handy?
its to dark out to take a picture of mine right now
we might have the same ones? someone told me mine looked strange
dark here too, and don't have any close-ups
mine is a mile marker conversion, about 15 years ago
last had it all apart a couple of years ago(maybe 5) when I put a new ring and pinion in the front, so it's a little foggy
havent had mine apart in a while but they arent too hard. if i remember correctly take the outer cap off, cap and spring come out, then take outer and axle snap rings off, whole assy will slide out exposing bearing lock nut, lock ring and then load adjusting nut. nuts may actually just rings with holes threaded onto spindle and take a special socket to remove and replace.

OK, I'm going to try and explain this as best it can.
first you remove the Allen bolts that hold the hubs together, then pull the outer part off.
next you have to remove a c clip.
then you can take off the first spindle nut.
after that, there is a POS washer with holes in it that takes me hours to remove each time I've done it(my fingers don't fit) use a hook of some sort to pull it out.
then the second spindle nut is accessible.
remove it.
now unbolt the brake caliper support and using a punch tap it out.
remove the caliper.
and slide the hub Assembly off.
its been like 6 months since I've done this, so its kinda vague. but it should help you get a feel for it.
