That is the head ASSEMBLY number not a real casting number... more than likely it had a C6AE-R casting number
That's the Ford part number for the only cylinder head (as listed in the 1965/72 Ford passenger car parts catalog) used originally on 1966/67 352/390/410/428 engines installed in full sized Mercs, Fords and T-Birds.
So what does it matter what the casting number is? The same head was used on all those engines, so the casting number won't be specific to just one engine size.
In 1968, Ford replaced C6AZ-6049-E with C8AZ-6049-M for use as a service part replacement.
This head was used thru 1971 on cars, trucks thru 1972, so the casting number could be C8AE, D2TE, whatever.
Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to actual Ford part numbers.
Then you do not understand how Ford FE cylinder heads work in the REAL world. You will never, ever find the number you listed cast into ANY FE cylinder head i.e. between the 2 middle spark plug holes.
The number you listed (6049) is the part number for a complete cylinder head assembly which means jack in the real world.
Look up a 428 Cobrajet cylinder head and you would get part number C8OZ-6049-F and that means what? Absolutely nothing because the CASTING number is C8AE-6090-J which would come in handy at a swap meet or pricing a rare $100,000 car.
i remember the block being c5ae and the heads being c4ae. which doesnt make sence since the valve cover on the drver sidee has the oil fill hole and the other has the pcv valve
I am not implying the heads I pictured are or were installed on 410 Mercury engines, merely showing the PART numbers you posted have nothing to do with what one would find in the real world, i.e. CASTING numbers...
So a C6AZ-6049-E translates into a C6AE-R Casting number and means therefore nothing because it was the common FE head from 66-68
