So is anyone running a kill switch? I'm considering putting one in my truck for added security. I currently have a viper remote start alarm, but was thinking of adding a kill switch. I'm not sure if its even worth doing so because all a thief needs to do is back up a tow truck and there goes my baby.
If anyone does have a kill switch, what do you have have it hooked up to? I was thinking of tying into the fuel pump.
I also try to park facing in at all times with the front wheels at full turn, that way if a tow truck does hook up to the back of the truck, it will go in a big arc until the wheels are straight.
any good tow truck operator can tow any car in any position no matter how its parked.
if they have to, they will FUBAR your truck without a second thought.
say you are parked against a curb with the wheels turned and the ebrake on.
all they do is drag it out by the front with the back wheels skidding.
once they have room, they drop a dolly under your cleverly turned front wheels, lift the back up and continue on their way.
or they drag your junk for 15 miles on the rims once the back tires pop...
i know some tow truck drivers and most of them, dont give a crap, they will do what they need to to get the job done.
just kidding about that last one, but seriously, everyone thinks they have a way for their car not to get towed, but there is no way...
now if you are trying to prevent theft, then a battery immobilizer will be painfully obvious. you really want a fuel cutoff.
there was a guy on another forum that figured a way to let his car start and run for 1-3 seconds then cut off unless the switch was disabled with the key.
i think it had something to do with a time delay relay working a valve on the fuel line
I'm not saying it's perfect. All I'm saying is do everything you can to make it inconvenient. What it comes down to is this, if they really want your truck, nothing you can do will stop them, all you can do is make it harder.
If you do it, make sure you use a REALLY robust switch.
I put one on a motorcycle, using a hidden toggle switch.
On a 2 lane road, we were passing a semi and right as we reached the front of the cab, we hit a pothole. The impact flipped the switch.
Yup. Engine shut off. It was rather tense.
