i just picked up a set of sylvania silver star bulbs for $7.48 at the local target clearance rack , regular price of 30 bucks... i thought they were the same part number that is used in my 1999 f150....the 99 150 uses a 9007 bulb...
the bulb that i thought was the correct one is a 9004 st...
they look the same as far as the connection go's...i really don't see a differance....doe's anyone know if there is a differance, and will it damage my wiring?
i'm going to try and call sylvania to try and get some sort of answer...
9007 are higher wattage than a 9004 an I think the plugs are different.
I found out from a sylvania service rep. that the 9007 is a lower wattage and that the plugs are the same...but they recommend installing what came with the truck..9007.. and the lumens @ lowbeam are2-300 lumens less than the standard lowbeam, but at high beam the lumens are pretty close..
sooo...do i return them or do i install them for the HID look...and the bright white light..kind of like my led maglite..
After the clearence sale ends, go back and tell them you got the wrong ones and want to exchange them. As long as they still carry them and theirs no big clearance sticker on them you should be good.
The silverstars are a brighter light, or I should say a whiter light, but they will not give you the HID look. The blue coating on the bulb makes the visible lite coming out whiter, not blue. They certainly are an improvement over the factory/normal bulb. The Silverstars come in 2 different versions ST (standard) and UL (Ultra). The 9004's are 45 watts @ low beam (700 lumens)and 65 watts @ high beam (1200 lumens), the 9007's are low beam @55w (1000 Lumens) and high beam @ 65w (1350 lumens). The 9004's would put out less light than your stock 9007 bulbs. If you want more light go with the Silverstar Ultra's in a 9007.

My personal choice is the Silverstar ultra's, I'm pretty sure you would still use the 9007's. Some people prefer the GE nighthawks, just a matter of preference. I have the ultra's in my 01 F150 7700. I also put them in my wife's 08 Pathfinder, it uses a 9007 also, amazingly the Pathfinders headlight assembly is made by Ford. You can find the Silverstars on EBay alot cheaper than any where else.
The Sylvania website has a wealth of information, confirming the 9007ST is the correct SilverStar item for our F150's & higher wattage bulb than 9004ST. They also list different codes to describe the bases on 9007 V 9004, which superficially look the same. Suspect they may've added a pin/post to prevent them from interchanging.
Oddly enough, the 9007 may also last longer, the standard 9007 is rated for nearly twice the life of 9004!
I tried to post a link to Sylvania/Oshram website, but for some reason it messes up this window.

Sounds like Sylvania needs to get a new rep that knows their products!!
I have the Silverstars in both my headlights and driving lights in the bumper.
