[quote=ghunt;6021469]I'd really love to have a 12V Cummins with a 5 speed behind it.quote]
I owned one, a '98, last year they had the 12v and yes you would like it, connected to a 5 speed they are freaking awesome. I had it in a '98 3/4 quad cab 4X4 and it was far and away the best truck I have ever had. Had 250K+ on it when I traded her in.

Well, it's partly the fault of the car lot that had it.
This guy in Marietta, Ohio had a '98 2500 4x4, 12V 5 speed, quad cab up on autotrader for like $15,000 and it had been up for awhile, which I figured indicated something fishy. I had e-mailed him and made an offer and he said "let's talk!" so I called him and he made it sound like he'd take a fair bit lower cash offer. '98 was the first year of the quad cab and the last year of the 12V, so apparently that combination is kinda rare.
So, I drove 2 hours to look at this thing, and as soon as I looked at it I found out why he'd had it so long. The body was alright, but it had big scratches and chips all over it. The bottom of the driver's side door was COMPLETELY rusted out (no idea how that happened) and there were rust bubbles over the rear fenderwell openings. The rear bumper was pushed in on one corner, and had a couple big dents in it, as did the front bumper. One of the taillights was cracked. The driver's side seat had a HUGE tear in it on the outside and the foam was all sticking out. Did the pictures on Autotrader show any of this, hell no. The guy came out and talked to me and flat out told me that it "needs ball joints, tie rods, and track bar bushings, but all these old dodges are like that." And he kept going on and on about how rare it was.
I took it out and drove it, it started and ran great, but it wandered all over the road and the steering was awful.
Went back and talked to the guy, asked him what the lowest he'd take for it was. He told me he wouldn't take a dollar under $13,000 (I had thought about offering him $10K, before I even looked at it). I pretty much said "SEE YA!" I don't care how "rare" it supposedly is, I'm not gonna spend THAT amount of money on something that I'd have to sink another $1K-2K in just to make it driveable and able to pass inspection. I have read that those Dodges are really hard on ball joints and track bar bushings, but I feel like that's something the guy could have had done before putting the truck out for sale...ya know?

I pretty much hate Chevy since they all ride like Caddy's and I cant stand that soft bouncy feel. Don't seem a like a tough truck. IFS is garbage, you can't go rock crawling without breaking an axle!!!
I like Ford's as I've heard they are reliable. Ford's are great work trucks. They ride like a real truck is suppose to. The only thing I hate with my Ford is all the emissions crap and the steering is kinda sloppy. Powerstroke's are problematic.
I like Dodge's too as they have great looking trucks. As for the Cummins, you cant compare it to the Powerstroke's and Duramax's. They are also reliable and ride like a real truck. Few of my friends have Dodge's and really never had a problem with them, there high milage as well.
I also cant stand how people bitch about how rough a truck rides. A truck is suppose to ride like a truck, not like a caddy. I just hate how Dodge is going to have an all coil spring suspension truck. Thanks to the whiners. Although, they look really good and aggressive, I would get one.
