Does anyone know (roughly) what the mileage difference (if any) would be between stock tires and 295's. I bought the truck 30k miles ago and it already had the 295's on it. My mileage has always been 13 city / 16 hwy, I need tires now, but I love the look of the 295's. But I might switch to stock if its a huge difference. As a side note, I had the same type of mileage w/ my 99' w/ 7.3 w/ stock tires. Maybe its my driving style?
Are you correcting for the taller tires when doing your mileage calculations? I went from the stock 265/75R16 up a size to 285/75R16. My speedometer now tracks dead on with the GPS and until recently I thought the odometer did too. I have been doing some testing lately and found that with the taller tires I am seeing 2.3% lower miles on the odometer vs. GPS distance on the same trip(about 1 mile on a 40 mile commute). When I correct for that error I see roughly a .4 MPG jump from my calculated mileage. A hand calculated 17.7-17.9 average goes up to 18.1-18.3 MPG.
If you make a base assumption of a 3% correction factor your corrected mileage would be 13.39/16.48 city/highway. Using a 4% CF yields 13.52/16.64.
I did the same tire change as you and when I pulled out my GPS to see how far off it was it was dead on but i have not done anymore tests than that.. I may now. but the BF goodrich tire size calculator said i should be off buy 3mph at 70mph..
But my miles i got out of a tank went down about 30 miles in 29 gal tank.. dont know how much of that is the odometer needing to be corrected and how much it having more rotating mass.
