I just bought a 2010 f-350 Lariat with stock 18's. I'm already looking at wheel and tire packages and was wondering if it's ok to drop to a 17" because of choices and price. Right now it's either 295/70/18 terra grapplers or 295/70/17. Almost 550$ difference in the package.
Not to worried about the D rating as I only tow a 17' boat but was more concerned if the 17" rims fit ok. I remember when I was looking at packages for my f150 that in certain models/years 17's wouldn't clear the caliper. Just making sure there is no problems like that in this case.
If you have tpms which you should, your light will be on all the time running "D" rated tires or running them at max. tire pressure forever. My tpms is set @ 65psi so I have to stick with "E" rated tires. There is some nice 285's out there "E" rated. That's what i'm looking at.
Toyo makes a 285/75/18 in the AT and MT. Great tires, rated 4000 lbs and 80 psi. You can get the Goodyear MT/R Kevlar in that size as well. Translates to about a 35x11.50.
If price is an issue, run the stock tires until you need to buy new ones.
Yepper...agree completely. I'd stay with the 18's though. Throw in some nice rims, and the cost will pay for 2-3 more sets of 18" tires alone. The price DIFFERENCE that is.
Price isn't really an issue, but I was figuring as long as there is no problems going with a 17" rim I might as well save 500 bucks. Really want the 295/70/18 though, it just seems like the perfect size for me. It's a descent amount of money either way so I guess it's safer to go with what I'll be happy with. Thanks for the replies guys.

Keep the same thing in mind when wheel shopping for your F-350 as you will likely run into the same issue. Some 17" wheels will clear the caliper, while others will not.
