i have a power bench seat with arm rest and cup holders out of a 94 f150 that i would like to install into my 93 which is a stripped xl model so i know the wiring wont be there. how hard is it to trace the wires and get power for the seat to work? is there already plugs there that i just have to find?
I put a seat in my truck that had power lumbar on it. I tapped the power from the seatbelt buzzer wires. I had already pulled the buzzer but when I found the wires hooked to the seatbelt latches it was perfect. For a power seat you might need more juice. Just my experiences. Good Luck
Power seats generally require a 20A or 30A fuse for the motor, so tapping off the 10A seat belt buzzer wiring might not be a good idea.
Since power seats (in Fords) are always live even if the vehicle isn't running, you could simply run an appropriate wire from the starter solenoid where the battery attaches, through the firewall, and to the seat. Ground the other side of the 2-prong seat connector to one of the mounting bolts on the floor with an eyering type of end (crimp or solder on). Make sure you use an inline fuse.
You might also find an open slot in the underhood fuse block or maybe even on the inside fuse box that can support a 20A fuse. Obviously you'd have to add the wire on the other side of the spade fuse but that's not very difficult. Just a matter of leeching one out of the junkyard to get the "cliplock" spade that goes in there, splice your wire onto that one, insert into whichever fusebox (in or out), and run the wire to the seat.
ok so if ford bench seats always have power it sounds like my simplest option is to just run my own power. should i be ok using a 20a fuse or should i just use a 30a inline?
20a I'd say. I've thought about doing this with my 96. But I don't think I will. When I do, I'll may use my lumbar switch power to do it with. I don't think I'll do it though. I tihnk i'm gonna find some more bucket seats to put in it, maybe from a explorer or something.
well i dont smoke andthe chances of me moving the seat andd using the cig lighter are slim to none so i think ill just tap power from there to keep things simple thanks for the help
