while replacing the brake lines i noticed on the rear axle a vent (like plug) connected to a roughly two foot tube running out to the back. i assume this vents the (heat-gasses) or both for the rear axle. well, just curiuos and took out the plug like thing from the axle and couldn't see through it. tried brake cleaner and counldn't get anything through the vent like screen. my question is should i just drill a small whole through it, so it can vent? or am i just getting ahead of myself. thanks ahead of time!
That's the vent for the diff, which is intentionally located up high to keep water from getting into it. I never had mine apart, but the plug is porous enough to vent pressure from the diff, and designed to not let water into it. I wouldn't be drilling any holes in it! I found out the hard way (by overfilling the diff) that the porous vent plug will also allow excess diff lube to vent and that makes quite a mess.

makes sense now. it probable isn't plugged at all (but) built to just vent the gasses. thanks
