Front Differential Venting Oil

I have a 97 Expy that pukes diff fluid out of the vent hose on the front axle. Originally it was located running forward from the axle along the frame rail and I thought maybe oil was just getting thrown into the vent tube then running out due to driveway grades and such. So, I relocated the vent tube up from the axle towards the top of the fenderwell. It still manages to push oil out the vent tube with it in this position.

Anyone ever seen something like this and know how to fix it? Is it as simply as a clogged vent tube that I can clean or replace?

Had the same problem here. Put a new vent tube on there and it fixed the problem. However, I did get slight drippage for a couple of days after. Not sure why.

Sounds like to me a case of too much oil in the diff. If overfilled the expansion of the oil when hot, could force it out the vent tube. If the tube gets clogged, it will blow your shaft seals and you will have a much more expensive problem. Check the fluid level.

Ford has a fix, part of the housing needs to be changed relocating the vent to a new area. There was either a TSB or a recall a few years ago. Get your Ford dealer to run an Oasis report with a symptom code for the front differential leak.
