Hi folks, enjoyed reading the board for a couple of years. 94 F-150 starting problem. Seems like it only happens during hot weather. At times it is hard to crank. By that I mean it spins for several seconds and I have to slightly depress the pedal. Occasionally dies after it cranks if I don't keep the RPMs up just a little. Any ideas? Other than this little problem she's been the best vehicle I've owned. Just turned 220000 and still uses 1 qt every 5000. Only motor problems have been a water pump and radiator. No Trans problems at all, original starter, alternator, compressor. I have had to replace a pinion seal, headlight switch, and clock spring...Great truck
Anyway, thanks in advance..
does your check engine light come on? If it dosen't it sounds like you need to give it a good tune-up. If the light does come on you will need to get the codes in the computer checked, but it sounds like the t.p.s. (throttle posision sensor). I hope this gives you some ideas.
Thanks Maverick,
No check engine light. Just recently had the tune up. It's done this a few times during the last few summers. Can you give me a brief description of what the TPS does?
The TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor, it actually reports to the ECU which position the butterfly plates on the throttle body are in. This governs the fuel/air ratio as well as a few other functions. These fail quite frequently, are easily replaced, and most auto parts stores carry them for usually less than $15. Hope this helps -TK
