Thanks in advance to anyone that can help, I have an older car that I've been working on. On limited budget of course. Question is. Is there a way to remove the older tint,as in 15 year old tint. or would I have to suck it up and buy new windows. the old tint is in bad condition.
It should come off, I just had one redone on my truck. It wasn't more than 5 years old, but it had failed. The tinter said that hot glass really helps to unstick the adhesive, and ammonia is known to break down the adhesive. So I'd pick a really hot day or get a hair dryer, soak the windows in ammonia or ammonia based window cleaner and scrape it off with new razor blades.
Yep, sounds about right to me. I had an early 80's blazer and did the same thing, took all the tint off without a problem. Break out the hair dryer and the razorblades!
get some aircraft remover at a parts store it works wonders nothing else worked on my old tint. just be careful not to get it on anything painted or plastic and were rubber glove while using a razor blade cuse the aircraft remover will burn your hands.
I used to own a detail shop and removed lots of tint for wholesalers who brought me cars. It depends on which kind of adhesive was used. If you're lucky it will be water soluable. On many I could just pull the tint off, use water with a little soap, spray and use a razor blade and let it come off. It's kind of messy. If water doesn't affect it then you have to use as was mentioned some sort of solvent and scrape.
