i have 2 questions the first is that i just bought a 7x14 enclosed trailer and i installed my brake controller and when i went for a test drive the trailer brakes keep wanting to lock up, i was wondering if anybody had any suggestions why , the controller was turned down all the way and the brake controller is about 6 yrs old if, not sure what to do any suggestions would be appreciated and the second is that im looking for a adjustable ball mount with a 6-8 inch drop i have 3 different trailers that i pull and all of them require a different ball mount im currently switching between a 2 6 and 8 inch drop just like to find one that will handle them all and has a decent amount of weight capacity thanks for any info
It sounds to me like the controller is not turned down enough, or possibly miswired. The only other possibility is a defective controller. You can check it with a volt meter at the trailer connector.
They do make adjustable Titanium drop hitches, I am not sure of the manufacturer but the people that I have seen them with tell me they run around around $200.
If it is an older tekonsha they have 2 adjustments on them the one on the right is a gain and the one on the left is a pendulum. depending on how you have it mounted if the controler is not level you have to adjust the pendulum side to make the contoler think it is level.
And if it is not a tekonsha with a pendulum some have a little white thing on the left side
And if it does not have the manual pendulum adjustment then make sure your Brake controler is level
For the hitch...I recommend the Rapid Hitch (see link). I have owned one for 2yrs now...and really enjoy the flexibility it offers. The quality is second to none...and mine still looks new.
The master lock looks pretty slick, I did notice that it is only rated for 5000lb trailer and 500 tongue weight. Keep that in mind. Don't know the trailer sizes you have. FWIW, I have seen several of the Rapid hitch type around here. One of my neighbors uses it in construction pulling some pretty heafty loads at times. He really like it.
