Hi guys I replaced the stock BFG tires with new Bridgestone duellers revos, same ply same size. Now when I pull our 30 ft camper It seems to sway more. Not sure what the difference is, or how to correct it, any suggestions? What about filling the tires with nitrogen? please help!
I agree with BRT, the original equip BFGs are quite a bit stiffer than a lot of replacemet tires. Air up to the max when you tow. I experienced a lot more "bounce" when towing after I changed out the stock BFGs for Michelins on my 03 PSD. Also, be certain to check the pressure on the trailer tires and run those close to max pressure.
Yeah I due run the tires up on max a buddy of mine mentioned about filling them up with nitrogen, any thoughts on this. What tires have a stiffer sidewall or which tires due you guys recommend for towing? The duellers are great tires all around except for towing they can be a little squirrelly.
I hate to say it but you might want to look at the original equipment tires. As the manufacturer designed the suspension with these in mind while testing in design phase.
I just installed the duellers my self, I am not happy with the wander I get out of them, Seemed to make the TT sway more than before i put them on, but I dont have the money to go out and buy new tires, I just purchased a helwig rear sway bar and will be installing that soon, I hope that will help out. I also went from c rated tires to the d rated ones, I cant see how they are causing me sway, but you seemed to have confirmed it for me, Other people have installed an ras system on there ex also, I am waiting to hear back from someone now who will be out towing his TT to see if it cured his wander problem.
You do have the LT's? I pull a 29' trailer with no sway with my revos. I run 45 - 50 pounds in the rear pulling. Nitrogen will do nothing for load bearing or sway. I am running 265/70R17, If you are running a larger tire maybe that has some effect.
I'm running 265/70/17 load range E. Do some tires have more steel belts in them than others I wonder? The BFG's were a good tire Except the traction was'nt all that great had to put in four wheel drive on wet grass.
That is the same that I am running. I'm not sure why you would develop sway by switching. If it towed fine before maybe you can swap someone wheels/tires for a test and confirm it is the tires and not something else that may have changed in your set-up.
I guess my next question would be and this is for all you tire guys out there. Do some tires have more steel belts in them than others? especialy in the side walls! If so which brands?

When you are talking Load Range E then they are all the same. The steel belts are mainly based on the Load Range.
If your SD does not wonder or sway when empty then I find it hard to believe it is the tires...especially if you are running them at 80psi. It is my experience the tires would cause the wonder empty also.
You do not mention what truck you have? Does it need an alignment? Are the tires balanced correctly? How are your shocks? How many miles on the truck? Do you have a steering damper installed?
Oh yeah, what type of weight distribution / anti-sway unit for the TT?
biz4two- I have 05 f250 cc Diesel I've got 48,000 + miles The tires are all balanced, Just had the whole front end replaced Tie rods, ball joints, Hubs, Ford garage did all the work and set the alignment backto specs.Shocks are are still the originals. I have the Blue ox weight dist/antisway hitch,( I was told it is one of the best ones out there)

Well...you do have a GREAT dist/antisway hitch in the Blue Ox. With a tight front-end...I guess it goes back to the tires.
