I too just tried the logout trick- no go. (Sorry Stosh, so not trying to hijack) When I read the initial post I thought it might be a good place to tell what was goin on, you know, in case a mod read it!
Sorry, dude... Ya know, I work on my POS truck, heat my house with wood, work out, etc. etc. etc. in an effort to get away from the hi-tech world, your brain turns to mush at times and I want to do something mechanical cuz I for some reason find it quite therapeutic.

Anyhow, so, you being in the biz, you know how it goes. Clearing the cookies was only a suggestion, I didn't experience the problems talked about here and so I don't know if my suggestion would have any effect or not. Apparently not, eh? I'd therefore suspect the server admin guys are still tweaking the installation of their new software. This is a database-driven site and there's some sort of middleware between the Web server(s) and the database server(s), there's plenty of opportunity for things to not be configured quite correctly, or maybe somebody's changing non-critical things in the middle of the day that will affect all new sessions in a certain fashion but existing sessions are screwed up for a while. Who knows, there's any number of things it could be.
I used to run/host a forum of my own. Mostly all forums are php front ends running on Apache or some form of Linux and they have a MySql back end. They are for the most part practically free, and they have tons of support.
Some will venture into .asp and Microsoft's SQL Server, but they are not as popular because of the initial cost and expensive support issues.
Well, that's what they like to call it where I'm presently working. I'm referring to things like Java application/servlet server software or Cold Fusion or Tomcat or some such. Some people where I work would prolly like to call PHP "middleware."
You're right in that there are many FOS-based forums out there and this may be one of 'em - vBulletin by Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd is what runs this site and Apache seems to be the front-end Web server software. However, when you get into the commercial business world, many managers are afraid of Linux and FOS software and will go only with commercial solutions, those with paid-for support & maintenance contracts & telephone numbers & people to whom the finger of blame can be pointed.
Regardless, sorry if I pissed ya off or sumthin, I was only trying to help users with a suggestion that has worked for me on this site in the past. This thread is off topic enough as it is, I'm outta here.
What? What are you guys talkin about? The last time I saw server and Ford in the same sentence, it was at a Sonic! Ya'll keep that wierdo funny-boy talk to yourselves. I know what a keyboard is and how to turn this thing on and off, and I'm dang proud of myself for that. I don't need any geek squad dribble to complicate my simple existence. I really don't know much about cars, much less computters, (I just recently learned the correct spelling), are you trying to make me feel incompetent?
For some reason, I can't find the thread where you talk about junkyard finds, and I posted a response about some door panels for an '80. I got them the other day, and besides being in great shape, they have the original door lock switches in place. I keep looking over my shoulder, just knowing I'm going to be arrested for theft at any moment. $35.50 for the pair DELIVERED? Oh, and he sent some linkage hardware and the interior chrome *****, which are also in great shape. Interior door lock switches! Those are about as common as confirmed big foot sightings! I'm giddy.
Still takes you to the forums and not the post with the email notification of subscribed threads. What a PITA! I liked it the way it was. Now, I have to remember which ones got replied to, clear all emails, then go to FTE to check them all.
Basically, this relies on cookies set in your browser to determine which post to
take you to (presumably, the "t=some-number" is the thread). About all I can
suggest aside from clearing your cookies & trying again is to make sure the
entire hyperlink as presented by your mail client is clickable and nothing is
word-wrapped (particularly the "&goto=newpost" portion).
Another thing you could try is cutting & pasting the URL from the mail message
into your browser's Location bar, see if it behaves any differently.
I have an idea to try, see if it matters if you're first logged in to fte or not when
clicking those links. I almost always have a Web browser open that's connected to
this forum (IIRC I had to choose the "Remember Me" option to keep from having to
re-log in again every day). I click those links and am taken to where I need to be.
You might see if it behaves differently for you if you have/don't have a logged-in Web
browser available.
As for e-mail notifications, if I access my e-mail via. web, and click a link on a notification, it beings me to the FTE forums home page, but if I click on the link within my E-Mail program (Mozilla Thunderbird) it loads up correctly. What I noticed though, if I copy and paste the URL from the web interface it will load correctly as well. Odd.
