My 1st post. This old girl has been working ,off the road for the last 5 years ,last fall before I put it away ,it all of a sudden lost power. It won't pull any kind of a load. I changed the fuil and filter. It idles fine and starts right up. It just dies out under load. Any quick things I can check out?? It pops thru the carb also if I realy load it down. The vin is N60CUE 10992,V8 5 speed. It happend real quick and hasn,t changed any . Any ideas would be well recieved Thank you, Smokey
Check timing, fuel pump, change points , cap rotor and plugs and plug wires. I would think fuel, but you have changed it already.
I had a motor do that and it was fuel pump reltated.
Not sure why your getting backfiring through the carb. If so you may have worn or leaking valves, bad timing setting ? Do a compression check and see where your at. How many miles on the old girl?
Thanks taf, Under 100k, Thats what the sredo says. I have to agree it feels like it's starving for gas. I will start with the pump if I can find one. Engine doesn't smoke at all and seems to fire on all cylenders. I will do the compression to be sure . Thanks, I will let you Know,Smokey
Popping through the carb and lack of power could be a timing chain that has jumped. Rotate the crank up to TDC #1 and see which way your rotor is pointing....
Thanks Blue . I did check the timing, it looks to be right on. The poping on the carb is rare and only with a cold engine. The problem started out right about the time some dirty watery gas got into the tank. So I think I will go with the feil pump next. I picked up a new one today. Only 23.00. I will give it a shot tommoro if it's not raining. Thanks for the help , Iwill keep you all posted,Smokey
